How is an axle repair done?
Should your axle not be damaged too much, repairing is a more cost-effective option than rebuilding. Repairing an axle is mainly different in how much is done to the axle and the cost of components used. An axle repair begins by disassembling the axle. The rotors, ring gears, axle shafts and also bearing set are removed. The pinion shaft and bearings are then kept installed. Should the axle require straightening, we will then use our lathe on the axle. This will then restore the axle back to factory specifications. Next, the housing, and bearings are inspected. Should any spindle ends be damaged, they will then be replaced by our built in-house spindle end replacements. Following that, the axle is then assembled, painted and filled with fluids. The axle is now able to be installed by you or your mechanic.
What is our process for rebuilding axle assemblies?
The process for rebuilding starts off similar to repairing an axle. Disassembly and cleaning of the axle components is the first step. Then, we replace the ring and pinions with OEM versions. We use OEM replacements because of their high quality. Then the bearings are replaced with Timken bearings. We use Timken bearings and seals in our axle rebuilds. They are the benchmark in the bearing industry because of their tight tolerances.
The seals are then replaced on the axle shafts and carriers with Timken seals. All worn seals are replaced. We then use refurbished replacement axle shafts in our axle rebuilds. These axle shafts have been thoroughly inspected. If needed, we will also use new axle shafts. If the rotors are bolted behind the hub on the rear axle, they will then be turned or replaced. This allows the pads to then be properly installed. Then the repair process is completed by assembling, painting and filling the axle with fluids.
