Our Process for Axle Rebuilds or Repairs
We will take in your axle and check how much damage the axle has. If the axle is not too damaged the axle can then be repaired. But if the damage is extensive, then the axle will need to be rebuilt. This process will then replace more parts and take more work to rebuild, meaning it is a more expensive process than repairing an axle. That being said, both processes also share some steps.
The first shared step is removing all of the components of the axles and cleaning them. After they are cleaned we inspect them for damage and determine what needs to be repaired and replaced. Then we will take the axle to our lathe and use it to restore the axle back to factory specifications. Then we will remove any damaged spindle ends and replace them with our built in-house spindle ends. In the final step, the axle is painted, assembled and then filled with fluids.
For the axle rebuild, we will begin with replacing the ring and pinion. The replacement is an OEM replacement that is known to be of high quality. We will then inspect the axle carriers and replace the seals on them with Timken replacements. Following that, our experts will replace the damaged axle shafts with a refurbished replacement. We may use a new axle shaft if needed. Then we inspect the rotor and if it is bolted behind the hub. If it is, then we will rotate or replace the rotor so that a brake pad may be applied properly.
What are the symptoms you may have if your axle is damaged?
If your axle is damaged it could have happened from numerous possible sources. Your car may have struck a curb too quickly, or you drove over a rough gravel road with too much weight loaded in the car. Whatever the cause, the damaged axle may present one or more of the following symptoms:
- Vibrations – If the axle is damaged, a vibration or also shaking will be felt as you drive. The vibration can be felt while turning the steering wheel as well.
- Leaks – A damaged axle can cause dents and cracks that lead to leaks. As a result, the lubricant may leak from the axle, causing the axle to not be properly lubricated.
- Noise – An axle with a dent or a bend can cause the gears on the axle to become out of alignment. You will notice a grinding sound as the gears turn together.
