Also, we use Timken bearings and seals in our axle rebuilds. They have the industry standard in the bearing industry. Their company is also trusted enough to even be used in the James Webb Telescope that was launched in December of 2021. Our experts can also modify your axles and differentials for any purpose you may want. This includes narrowing an axle for hot rodding. Or even modifying a differential for off-roading. Whatever you want we can help you.
Our Rebuilt and Repaired Axle Process
Our first step before rebuilding or repairing an axle involves determining how much damage the axle has. If the damage isn’t too severe then the axle can be repaired. Otherwise, the axle will need to be rebuilt. The repair process replaces fewer parts but it is also a cheaper process. Both processes also share some steps.
The first step is to remove the axle’s components. We will clean the components and then check if they need to be repaired or replaced. Following that, we will put the axle on our lathe to restore the axle back to factory specifications. We will then remove any damaged spindle ends. The spindle ends are then replaced with the spindle ends we make in-house. Finally, we will then paint, assemble and fill the axle with fluids.
For the axle rebuild process, we will first replace the ring and pinion. We use a high-quality OEM ring and pinion to replace the ring and pinion. Then, for the seals on the carrier, we will replace them with Timken replacement seals. Then we replace the axle shaft if it is damaged with a refurbished axle shaft. The replacement axle shaft has been refurbished by our experts back to factory specifications. A new axle shaft will be used if needed. Then, if the rotor is bolted behind the hub, the rotor will be turned to replaced so a brake pad can be applied properly.
What you might feel if you have a damaged axle
There are many ways your axle may have been damaged. These include driving over a bumpy road with too much weight in the car, driving over a large pothole, or hitting a curb. Whatever may have been the cause you may experience some of these symptoms. If you do experience any of these, you should take your vehicle to your mechanic and have your axle inspected. The symptoms include:
- Noise – An axle with a bend or a dent can cause the gears on the axle to become misaligned. You will notice a grinding sound as the gears turn together.
- Leaks – A damaged axle can cause dents and cracks that lead to leaks. As a result, the lubricant may leak from the axle, causing the axle to not be properly lubricated.
- Vibrations – If the axle is damaged, your vehicle will start vibrating and it will be felt as you drive. The vibration will be more prominent while turning the steering wheel as well.
