At Houston Rebuilt Axles, we provide high-quality axle rebuilds, repairs and modifications. Our professionals have over 75 years of experience providing these rebuilds, repairs and also modifications. As a result, we have gathered a large amount of specialty equipment needed to work on axles effectively. We also sell axles that we have previously refurbished. Also, we ship our axles to any location in the continental United States. We also provide door-to-door shipping and receiving services through a courier service to your house or mechanic in Orlando.
In our axle rebuilds and repairs, we make use of Timken bearings and seals. They are also known in the bearing industry for being the industry standard in their field. They were also used in the James Webb Telescope because of the high quality of their bearings. The telescope was launched in December 2021. Our axle rebuilds are covered by our warranty as well. This means you can trust the quality of our axle rebuilds and repairs. Not only that, but we modify differentials and axles for a wide variety of reasons. For example, if you have a differential you want to use for off-roading, or you want to narrow an axle for hot rods, we can help you.
How our Axle Rebuilds and Repairs are done
We will first decide if the axle will need to be rebuilt or repaired. This is done by evaluating how badly impaired the axle is. Axle damage that is not too extreme can often be repaired. If the damage is quite comprehensive then the axle will need to be rebuilt. The repair process uses fewer parts and is also a cheaper process. The rebuild and repair processes share some steps, but rebuilding is a more involved process.
The first step is that the axle’s components will need to be removed. Following that, the components are cleaned and then checked if they are in need of repair or replacement. Then the axle will be put on our lathe to shape it back to factory specifications. If there are damaged spindle ends, then we will remove those and replace them with spindle ends build in-house. Finally, we will paint, assemble and then fill the axle with fluids.
For the axle rebuild process, the first major difference is that we replace the ring and pinion. Then we use a high-quality OEM replacement for the ring and pinion. For the carriers on the axle, we will replace the seals if needed. The seals we use are also made by Timken. For the axle shaft, we replace it with a refurbished axle shaft. This axle shaft has been refurbished to factory specifications by our professionals. Then, if the rotor is bolted behind the hub, that rotor is either rotated or replaced so that a brake pad can be applied properly.
What you may experience if you have a damaged axle
Your axle may have been damaged in a multitude of wars. As an example, you could have driven over a large pothole or hit a curb too hard. The ways an axle can be damaged are numerous, but whatever the reason, you may experience some of the following symptoms. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, take your vehicle to a mechanic and have it inspected.
- Vibrations – A damaged axle can cause your vehicle to vibrate, which will be felt as you drive. The vibration will be more prominent while turning the steering wheel as well.
- Noise – Misaligned gears can result from bends or dents in axles. You will notice a grinding sound as the gears turn together.
- Leaks – A damaged axle can cause dents and cracks that lead to leaks. As a result, the lubricant may leak from the axle, causing the axle to not be properly lubricated.
